Advanced Standing is the award of credits by an institution in recognition of prior learning achievements at an appropriate level.[xii]

Programmes are designated for Higher Diploma / Associate Degree holders for the articulation to undergraduate qualification. The duration of Top-up Degree Programmes / Articulation Degree Programme is usually two years.

Credential granted by a university in recognition of a student's successful completion of an undergraduate program of study. Recognized Bachelor’s Degree programms are classfied as Level 5 under the Qualifications Framework.[xi]

Credits received by a student for a completed sub-degree qualification in a related subject area at the sending institution (i.e. community college or college), are recognized by the receiving institution (i.e. university) in the form of a “block” of unspecified credits as partial fulfilment of the programme requirements for graduation.

Students who have been granted block transfer will usually be required to complete a reduced curriculum for graduation.[xii]

An exemption refers to the waiving of the requirement to complete a particular course on the basis of a student having completed an equivalent course. This means that the student does not need to take that particular course.

Some institutions may require students to whom course exemption is granted to take other course(s) to meet the credit requirement of the study programme.[xii]

A measurement of the size or volume of learning of a course or programme of study.[xii]

A process whereby qualifications, part qualifications and learning experience are given appropriate recognition (credit) to enable students to progress in their studies without unnecessarily having to repeat material or levels of study, to transfer from one course to another, and to gain further educational experience and qualifications without undue loss of time.[xii]

All university students are required to complete the general education components included in the graduation requirement stipulated by the university.[viii] [ix] [x] [xiv]

Courses and conditions that must be successfully completed before a credential is awarded to students, with terms and standards specific to the institutions including completion of compulsory and elective subjects of the major programme, general education requirements and other requirements and conditions.

A sub-degree credential having a 2-year curriculum equipping students with generic skills and knowledge in specialised disciplines and practical vocational skills. The emphasis of Associate Degree programme is laid on the vocational orientation. Accredited Higher Diploma programms are classfied as Level 4 under the Qualifications Framework.[vii]

Credits which can be used for the exemption of a particular course required for graduation on a one-to-one or group basis. Students who have been granted individual transfer will be deemed to have obtained the credits for the course in fulfilment of graduation requirements.[xii]

A programme of study in a degree where the focus of the courses specializes in a single discipline. Usually specified in the credential.[i] [iii] [v] [xvi]

The grading system of each institution varies. The normailised minimum GPA used in CICIS search result is capped at 4.0 to show the minimum GPA of SYA students admitted through a particular articulation pathway.

A credit transfer mode refers to the combination of Block Transfer at the time of admission and Individual Transfer after the admission.

A set of inter-related studies leads to a qualification and consists of a number of modules (courses/subjects/units).[xii]

Institution to which a student transfers. This institution makes the decisions about credits achieved from a qualification to be recognized for transfer to a receiving programme. Receiving Institutions generally refers to the UGC-funded universities under CICIS context.[xiii]

Institution from which a student transfers. Credits achieved in this institution seek to be recognised for credit transfer or for articulation to a receiving learning programme. Sending institutions generally refers to the sub-degree programmes offereing community colleges under the CICIS context.[xiii]

Senior Year Admissions generally refer to the direct entry of Year 3 of 4-year undergraduate Programmes.

The eight UGC-funded universities provide around 5000 senior year undergraduate intake places for graduates of sub-degree programmes and students with other relevant qualifications.[ii] [iv] [vi] [xv]
